Visit the sites of famous battles and sieges from 2,000 plus years of history.
Our area is littered with historic battlefields, from Mancetter, where the warrior Queen Boudica was finally defeated by the mighty Roman army in AD60 (not before she had inflicted serious damage on them in the preceding weeks – a fascinating story in itself) to Worcester, the scene of the final battle of the English Civil War in 1651, with many, many more besides.
On one of our Battlefield tours, you may find yourself standing on the mound at the edge of Worcester city - in close proximity to the city walls - where the Parliamentarian forces barraged the soon to be defeated Royalist army with cannon fire. Here we can see the tower of the nearby Cathedral from which the future King Charles II viewed events – no doubt plotting how he was going to be able to escape from the carnage in one piece. He probably hadn’t factored in a whole day hidden in an oak tree as he made his successful bid to reach the shores of France – but that, as they say, is another story!!
A small taste of the rich and colourful tapestry which, ultimately, led to the country as we have it today.
